Pour Some Sugar on Me! Exfoliate!

Even as an adult, my mother still manages to find ways to remind me that she’s a true treasure in my life. Recently, I received a package from her containing a homemade jar of brown sugar scrub. Did I know that I needed this in my life? No. Did I need this in my life?

YES!

Since we are still shaking off the last acts of winter, exfoliation and moisturizing definitely should have been on my mind.  This scrub is wonderful for removing that build-up while also laying on a delicious layer of moisture.  It can be used all over (face, hands, feet!) and couldn’t be simpler to make if you don’t have someone to drop it in your lap by surprise.

The recipe attached was simple:

1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons honey

The sugar exfoliates while the oil moisturizes. I knew honey did nice things for your lips (if you can stand letting it sit on there and do its business) but I discovered that it actually has a lot of benefits for skin. Being naturally antibacterial, packed with antioxidants, and clarifying, honey can do a lot for common skin problems like aging, acne, and improving complexion. As if I needed any more reasons!

I used this in the tub after letting my face open up and relax with some warm water. Gently massage the scrub onto your skin and then wipe clean with a moist cloth. I left a thin sheen of oil to continue pampering my face, but you can blot excess away as you see fit.

Give it a try!
